Mother was inspired by a dream in which I saw a little girl sleeping in a foetal position among the roots of a great tree. Painting it within a circular composition allowed the tree to become the central point from which the branches became perfect resting places to take deep rest and restoration.
My intention was to portray nature as the great mother , a presence we can trust, where every creature finds safety and belonging.
l set the tree against a perfect blue sky and a sense that all is well. In the painting a little girl sleeps comfortably and soundly under the earth in the roots of the tree and above a jaguar, woman, bird, serpent, butterfly, and cat are not afraid or subspinous of each other, everyone is sleeping soundly on Mother.
Painted in alla prima style to really allow the colours to be rich and spontaneous.
